- Wainwright, Jeffrey
- (1944- )Born in Longton, one of the six towns of Stoke-onTrent, Staffordshire, the only child of parents who both worked in the local pottery industry. He graduated B.A. with honors in English and M.A. in English and American literature from Leeds University. While there he edited Poetry and Audience (then a weekly magazine), which was also published in other student magazines. He has been lecturer in English and American studies at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth; visiting assistant professor, Long Island University, Brooklyn, New York; lecturer in English at Manchester Metropolitan University; fellow in creative writing at Cambridge University; and since 1999, professor of English at Manchester Metropolitan University. He has translated plays, was northern theatre critic for The Independent, has contributed to BBC Radio arts programs and has been included in many poetry anthologies.
